The brick kiln of the old Shimotsuke brickyard was registered as a Meiji Era western-style construction National Important Cultural Asset "Industrial Heritage Ruins" site in November of 1978.The kiln is a Hoffman kiln, invented by the German engineer Hoffman, capable of continuously producing bricks, it is a hexadecagon, 16-sided shape with a circumference of approximately 100m and a height of 25 meters at the highest point of the chimney. The building has maintained its original shape and design for nearly 100 years.When in operation, the 16 kilns inside the building fired approximately 272,000 bricks at once.
