The Utsunomiya Historical Site Plaza was opened as a historic park for "Nekoyadai Iseki", the remains of a Jomon Period settlement, in March of 1991. Nekoyadai Iseki was specified as a national historic site in 1988.The historical site plaza's catchphrase is "Ancient times reborn" and the 2 main attractions are "Japan's largest scale restored buildings" and "a museum with exhibitions on various forms of burial".In May of each year, the western slope is covered in daylilies and a Daylily Festival is held during this period each year, and sales of rice-flour dumplings mixed with mugwort and vegetables are also carried out at the plaza.Cultural experience classes and rice cake making events are also held which are also fun for children.
