Izuruhara Benten Ike Pond is located approximately 6km northwest of Sano City. It was created by spring water seeping out through cracks in Paleozoic strata limestone and forming the pond. There are maple trees on the other side of the pond, and the quietly swimming carp, the bright red maples and the pond make for a breathtaking sight. Izuruhara Benten Ike Pond is designated as a Prefectural Natural Treasure, and is also one of the 100 Selected Famous Waters of Japan designated by the Ministry of the Environment.
