The Sano Yakuyoke Daishi is located approximately 1km from Sano Station near the center of Sano City, and its formal name is Kasuga Okayama Sreiheishiji Temple. It is said it was built in year 9 of the Tengyo era (944) as an offering by Fujiwara no Hidesato for the subjugation of Taira no Masakado. Large numbers of people visited the temple since long in the past in order to pray for warding off of misfortune and evil and for prayers for bad luck "yaku" years, at new year's in particular the temple is very busy with nearly 1,000,000 worshippers.
