The oldest steel structure toba in Japan
Seiganji Temple houses the oldest steel structure toba in Japan. A toba is a long, thin plank which is stood on a gravestone for mourning of the dead during specified periods. It is said it was erected in 1312 by Sadatsuna, the 8th Utsunomiya daimyo for the 13th anniversary of his wife’s death. It is an important national cultural asset and everyone should come see the 3.3m high steel toba at least once.
