The monument enshrined at the Kasaishi Jinja Shrine is one of Japan’s three great monuments and was designated as a national treasure in 1952. It is said to have been erected to honor the virtue of the dead after the death of Nasuno Ataiide, who settled the Nasu no Kuni in 700.
