The rock information center to the southeast of Mt. Iwafuneyama is the smallest such information center in Japan. A variety of materials related to Iwafune rock are displayed inside the center. The town of Iwafune once prospered by mining Iwafune rock. There is history that there were already quarries in the area as far back as 1670, and the rock was used throughout the country as a building material for strong structures. The information center was first built as an office in 1931, and its retor appearance has resulted in it being used in the filming of a number of dramas. Climbing the narrow road into front of the information center one will find a parking lot for visitors who wish to go hiking on Mt. Iwafuneyama.
