Turning west at the Tochigi City Yamatocho intersection on the Reiheishi Kaido then heading straight a little one will find the Tsukada Museum of History and Legend along the shore of the Uzumagawa River. The Tsukada family were a wealthy wood shipping and trade merchant family in the late Edo period (1844-1848). During that time wood was transported by rafts from the Uzumagawa River through the Tonegawa River, with the trip said to require one entire day and night going and 3 days and 3 nights returning with the wood. The warehouses that still remain today were white wall and enclosed by black fences, their sense of history and depth reflected in the water surface, one of the representative sights of the Tochigi warehouse district.
