Nodachiiwa is a particularly giant boulder on the Nogigawa River. Because the bridge is attach to it, one can climb on top of the boulder, and see the group of boulders known as the 7 boulders. It is said that during the Edo Period when Gamo Hideyuki, the leader of the Utsunomiya domain, passed through the Shiobara Kaido with the Aizu army, he spent an entire night on this boulder. The boulder was thus named “Nodachiiwa”, or “Outdoor stay boulder” because this famous person spent the night outdoors on the boulder.
