Taisanji Temple is located at the base of Mt. Ohirasan and is said to have been built by former monk Ennin. The wooden seated statue of the 1000 armed Kannon Goddes of Mercy principal image is one of the Kanto Sanzan 1000 Armed Kannon and is designated as a Prefectural Tangible Cultural Asset. The weeping cherry tree in the front garden is estimated to be nearly 400 years old and is said to have been planted by Oraku, the concubine of the third Tokugawa shogun Iemitsu and birth mother of the 4th shogun Ietsuna. The great weeping cherry is a must see when visiting the temple during the spring.
