Koun Ritsuin Temple is located approximately 1km east of the Toshogu Shrine, and was built as one of the 3 Honzankaku seminaries in the Nikko Mountains in 1729. It is apparent that this was a disciplined training location from the words "entertainment forbidden" written before the shoromon gate. There are consecrated shogi pieces arranged in the komado hall and the shoromon gate has been designated a Prefectural Important Cultural Asset.
