One can reach the Akechidaira Ropeway by ascending the No. 2 Irohazaka road that climbs the mountain. From the observatory reached by riding the ropeway one can view a spectacular panorama of scenery including Mount Nantaisan, Chuzenjiko Lake and Kegon no Taki falls. On especially clear days visitors can also see the city of Utsnomiya, Mount Akagisan, Mount Asamayama and Mount Fuji in the distance. It is said this "Akechidaira" area, which offers the best view in all of Nikko, takes its name from Akechi Mitsuhide who assassinated Oda Nobunaga during the famous Honnoji Temple incident.
