Suga Jinja Shrine

Suga Jinja Shrine is said to have started by being built in what is the current day Oyama City Nakakuki area by Fujiwara no Hidesato in the year 940, and moved to its current location sometime between 1159 and 1160.Tokugawa Ieyasu prayed for victory at Suga Jinja Shrine before entering the battle at Sekigahara. His prayers were answered, and the Ieyasu became dedicated to worshipping at the shrine, even dedicating an Akamikoshi portable shrine. The Gion Festival is held in July of most years, and the summer festival is held the 3rd Sunday during the festival.
