Furumine Jinja Shrine

Shodo Shonin the founder of Nikkosan trained here leading to it also being called "The Birthplace of Nikko". It is also known as "Tengu no Mori" (Tengu's Forest), long believed that the Tengu goblins were the servants of the enshrined deity, and it is thought that the shrine protects worshippers against calamities. Inside the shrine are Tengu masks and a variety of other Tengu related goods. The garden draws clean water from the Oashigawa River and takes advantage of the wide natural geographical features, spreading over 25,000 tsubos (82,500 square meters). The shrine is busy with day trip worshippers and overnight stay worshippers from all over the country every day, and is always bustling.
