Shiobara Hachimangu Shrine

Shiobara Hachimangu Shrine houses in the middle of the shrine grounds a famous, 1500 year old, 40m tall sacred tree which is designated at a National Natural Treasure. The appearance of the tree has also led to it being called the “backwards cedar” by those familiar with the tree. In addition, also inside the grounds flows the spring which is famous for feeding the backwards cedar with water reputed to give long life.It is said that Minamoto no Yoshiie once visited this shrine to pray for victory in battle.
